Lough Ree is the second largest lake on the river Shannon and it contains many islands of varying historical significance rich in wildlife and all accessible by boat from the house. The river Inny flows into the bay directly in front of the house and this particular part of the lake is a renowned coarse and trout fishing location.
The local village, Glasson, known as "The Village of the Roses" has two attractive pubs - Grogans old-world pub and across the road Farrells Pub - both serving food. It also has the award winning Glasson Village Restaurant, Spollen's modern Supermarket, A Craft Shop and a tourist information centre in the old stone school house. A short distance away is the noted Wineport Restaurant located on the lake shore and the town of Athlone nearby has Athlone Castle and an Abundance of Shops, Supermarkets, Restaurants, Pubs and Hotels.
There is a choice of two 18 Hole Golf courses nearby Glasson Golf and Country Club and Athlone Golf Club at Hodson Bay both located on the lakeshore and a accessible by road or water.
Clonmacnoise The 6th Century early Christian Monastery is a short journey by water or road.
